Selecting Art from the Archives with the WAL App’s Featured Artists

Over the last two days, Althea and I met 6 of the 7 artists that will be featured on the WAL App.  Together we looked at art slides, photographs, exhibition pamphlets, magazine articles, posters and other (digital and physical) materials held at the Women’s Art Library – drawing together aspects of each artist’s contribution to the archive.

In selecting from their artworks the artists shared their inspirations behind their work. Each piece having been inspired by lived experiences relating to location (where they grew up), family, food, medicine, the domestic, culture, travels, the (un)conscious and/or the human condition to name a few.

The richness of these discussions have been captured in audio recordings – small journeys through through the thoughts, feelings and inspirations of each artist – a feature I hope you’ll enjoy on the App. Below are a few of pictures from our two days with the artists.
